Rebooted cloud120, putting an end to the 340 day uptime. :( Also
updated the web pages to reflect the .com name change.
www.cloudmaster.com will be moving to a faster internal server soon,
forwarded via ipchains (the reason for cloud120's reboot), and the
firewall here will get a little tighter in some places and a little
looser in others. If you're connecting from .com.br, I'm logging
you a little closer as a result of the idiot that tried breaking in
(repeatedly) a few weeks ago. I decided not to block the whole domain,
because I want cloudmaster.com's information to be as available as
possible, and not have one bad apple ruin access for a whole lot of
people.

Added a link (and wrote the script) for squid.cloudmaster.com's
blacklist. Now you too can
block all the banner ads we block.

Today our ISP was down again, a result of the crappy phone companies
in the Chambana area. Since our ISP was unable to receive calls,
cloudmaster.com was obviously unreachable as well. This was the
problem a couple of days ago as well. Another thing, the connect
has been a little slower than usual because again, our ISP's connect
to the outside world has been a bit slow. It appears that UUnet is
having some problems, but they have "senior engineers" working on it.
Anyway, just so users and clients know that the recent outages and
slowdowns are beyond our control here at cloudmaster.com, and they're
also out of the control of our ISP in most cases. I'm certain we'll
work through these minor problems and continue to provide what I hope
is a worthwhile service to the internet community.

Today we had a slight problem with the network device in the primary
file and authentication server for cloudmaster.com, and as such,
some of you may have noticed some difficulties with connecting. No
mail was lost or anything like that though, users just weren't able
to log in. The issue will hopefully be resolved when we move from
our current repeated 10 Mbit/sec network to the new switched 100
Mbit/sec switched network. That'll be nice. :)

www.cloudmaster.com now works all around the world. All users should
change any mailing lists they subscribe to so they are going to
"@cloudmaster.com" instead of "@cloudmaster.ml.org". Same goes
for web pages, wherin all references to cloudmaster.ml.org should
be changed to www.cloudmaster.com - any other references to
cloudmaster.ml.org should be changed to cloudmaster.com, such as
squid.cloudmaster.com, news.cloudmaster.com, mail.cloudmaster.com -
you get the idea. I'll be setting up an auto-forwarder / responder
on the web server and the mail server so users shouldn't have
to do anything but tell others about the change. Update your
bookmarks! :)

Today cloudmaster.com's registration showed up in the whois database
system. That means registration has gone through. It should start
appearing in dns databases within a few days (it takes a while to
propagate around the world). Also noteworthy, early this morning,
cloudmaster.ml.org reached 200 days of continuous uptime! Click the
link on 3-9 to check it out for yourself. One final thing - I
implemented referrer and user agent logging last night. It's just
for my own curiosity, and soon I'll have a page up with various
searches people have used to find us here at c.m.o. Don't worry,
I'm not gonna post your IP addresses or anything that would be even
a marginal breach of your privacy, it's just kinda neat to see how
people are finding us and what they're using to look at us. :)

Yesterday I went ahead and got cloudmaster.com's registration into
the works. Just about everythign here is set up to make the
transition as painless as possible, but there'll prolly be some problems
that I didn't initially see (there usually are). Anyway, in a couple
of days or so, hopefully I'll hear from internic and we'll be set.

I've been screwing around with new kernels on the primary file server
here at c.m.o, which would explain the occasional loss of authentication
and the occaiosnal apperant dissaperance of files. Everything's
back up now with 2.2.2, I'm gonna try moving to 2.2.3 tonight.
Tonight's move should be less painful, as I've gotten most of the
2.2.x bugs worked out. cloud120 (the only machine the internet
can see) is gonna remain on the same server just for
uptime
bragging rights until I get around to upgrading it to a signifigantly
faster machine with a pile of RAM. In other words, it'll be a 486/120
for a long time. :)
I wanna personally apologize to the person on nucleus.com that was
trying desperately to download stuff from my ftp site. I had to kick
him off to get the rest of the filesystem back together. He had to
reconnect like 3 times to get what he was looking for. If you're
reading this: "sorry." It really kills me to kick someone off, but
I simple had no other choice.
